Pavilion beat Horsham home and away to reclaim Friendship Cup

Twenty-four players from Worthing Pavilion captained by Richard Krupa took possession of the Friendship Cup after defeating Horsham Bowling Club home and away. Pavilion travelled to Horsham on August 17 with a 20-shot advantage from the first leg of the annual match, which has been contested since 1993. They were welcomed by Chris Holmes, president of the host club, who also captained his team. They put early pressure on the Pavilion bowlers, reducing the overall deficit, but after 21 ends played in perfect weather Krupa's team regained the trophy they had lost last season. The final score was Pavilion 108 shots, Horsham 103, giving an aggregate of 224-199. Krupa skipped the top rink of Pat Edmonds, Gerry Shallis and Jonathan Gauntlett, who won 30-12. Simon Warr skipped Keith Lyons, Alan Fryer and Simon Ritter to a 21-9 win. Richard Calvert skipped George Rhodes, Charlie Ward and Barry Balchin, who drew 20-20. Arthur White skipped Helen Beale, Dave Owens and Dennis Allen, who lost 14-13. Warwick Davis skipped Sue Bryan, Nour Dissem and Bryan Bodicoat, who lost 21-11. Ken Chapman skipped Graham Morrey, Roger Dutton and Ian Down, who lost 27-13. Both teams enjoyed the excellent refreshments and hospitality provided by Horsham's members after the match, with a promise to renew acquiantance next summer.
